A lot of twists are introduced in the form of prophecies from the start of the book itself, but they are explored in the second part. Although, If you’re familiar with the tale and its characters, you’ll love to see the way the author connects her tale with the original one. One does not need to know the whole story of the Trojan war to enjoy this book. Although the book’s name is The Song of Achilles, I think Patroclus is the real hero in this retelling. The pace is slow at the start but it gets better in the second half. Most of the story takes place in Pithia and Troy. This book is a triumph of love over name and fame. Moreover, it is a war between peace and honor, gods and kings. And this war will demand everything Patroclus has to offer. Stranded between love and pain, Patroclus travels with Achilles to Troy. And the Trojan war begins, narrated by Patroclus(in this book). They learn warfare and medicine together, eventually, their affinity evolves to something meaningful.įew years fast forward, a word comes from Sparta that Helen, queen of Sparta, has been kidnapped by the prince of Troy. Patroclus and Achilles soon become friends and thence the song of Achilles begins. Patroclus is young when he is exiled to the court of King Peleus and his son Achilles.
